What is Exchangr?

Exchangr provides a JSON-based REST API, delivering reliable and accurate currency exchange rates for 172 world currencies at an affordable price, which makes it the perfect instrument for startups and online businesses, as well as for larger companies in need of reliable financial data via an easy to use interface. The Exchangr API is widely used to power financial departments, mobile applications, and back-office systems around the world.

Who runs the Exchangr API?

The Exchangr API is a product built and maintained by Zyla Labs, a technology company aiming to build a variety of reliable Micro-Saas products for underserved markets and make them affordable for both startups and larger companies. Zyla Labs is headquartered in London, UK.

Data & Sources

Where is our data coming from?

Exchange rate data delivered by the Exchangr API is collected from over 15 reliable data sources, every minute. Sources include banks and financial data providers.

Which type of historical rates does the API offer?

The Exchangr API delivers EOD / End of Day historical exchange rates, which become available at 00:05am GMT for the previous day and are time stamped at one second before midnight.

How often are exchange rates refreshed?

Spot exchange rate data is collected within the 60-second market window. Depending on your Subscription Plan, quotes are refreshed every 60 minutes (Free Plan), 10 minutes (Growth Plan), or 60 seconds (Pro Plan).

Which currencies are available?

We offer 164 Currencies + 8 Cryptocurrencies. Our API is integrated with a number of highly reputable foreign exchange rate sources, offering the most recent and accurate rates for 516 currency pairs.

Can I change the base currency?

You may use the API's source parameter and set it to any of the currencies to cause all returned exchange rated data to be relative to that currency.

All of our 174 currencies can be used as base currencies, one at a time, to look up as many currencies you want at once.

Which currency data does the API provide?

Depending on which API endpoint you are using for your query, the Exchangr API will return or calculate with the most representative forex market rate available, which is generally the "midpoint" value. The "mid" value will also be the most useful tool to your company's financial department for accounting & invoicing purposes, for financial estimates or planning, for calculator & converter applications, and for any other applications you power with Exchangr forex data.

All exchange rates are returned as currency pairs.

At which time are historical exchange rates made available?

The previous day's historical exchange rates become available each day at 00:05 AM GMT (12:05 AM London time). However, to allow for reverse rate conversions and consistent comparisons, all rates are time stamped at 23:59:59 GMT. All timestamp values returned by the API are standard UTC timestamps.

API Access & Features

How can I convert currencies and obtain Forex rates?

Forex rates and Currency conversion are supported using the same API endpoints and can be used to convert any amount from one currency to another.

What happens if my allowed volume is exceeded?

Your API request volume can be exceeded by 20% without your service being affected. Please note that after 120% of your volume has been used your API access will be disabled.

What is the API's uptime?

The API has had an uptime of 99.99% throughout the last 12 months.

How does our WordPress plugin work?

You can display the latest currencies (USD, GBP, CAD, etc) on your website using this WordPress plugin. The plugin includes comprehensive controls to display desired date rates as well as the latest, with the help of short codes with custom WP Editor.

How does the Drupal module work?

Exchangr API is a Drupal module that consumes, caches, and produces blocks to display precious metal prices from our API. In order to use the Exchangr API module, install the module following Standard Drupal module installation practices. More information is included in the README.txt file. Once the module is installed, navigate to the Exchangr
API Integration Settings page from the Configuration -> Web Services menu item and paste your Exchangr API Key in the provided field. The module is configured to refresh the feed at a rate of once every 24 hours. You can adjust that to whatever rate you feel is necessary, provided that your Exchangr API Account allows for it.

Plans, Pricing & Payment

What is the difference between free and paid subscriptions?

The Free Plan is set out to be a "trial version" without a time limit, offering the same functionalities as paid plans, but with a much smaller number of API calls per month.

Paid Subscription Plans feature significantly higher API Request volumes and data updates as often as every 60 seconds, as well as included unlimited and prioritised technical suppor.

Which payment methods are supported?

Prices are listed in USD. We accept all major debit and credit cards. Our payment system uses the latest security technology and is powered by Stripe, one of the world’s most reliable payment companies. If you have any trouble with paying by card, you can pay using PayPal.

Can I upgrade, downgrade and cancel anytime?

Can I upgrade, downgrade and cancel anytime?
Active plans can be upgraded, downgraded, and canceled anytime. Upgrades, downgrades, and cancellations are immediate.

How do I change my payment method?

Go to the "Billing" section on your dashboard. There you can update your credit card information. If you are using PayPal, you must make the change directly on your PayPal account.

How do I change between monthly and yearly billing?

To change your billing frequency from monthly to yearly or from yearly to monthly, you will be required to downgrade your account back to the Free Plan.

Step 1: Navigate to the Subscription page, click "Downgrade" in the Free Plan section and confirm your downgrade. Downgrades are not effective immediately, your premium subscription will remain active until the end of the current billing period.

Step 2: Once your your account downgrade has become effective, navigate back to the Subscription Page and click "Upgrade" in your preferred subscription plan's section. You will now be asked to choose a new billing frequency.
